Hello. Welcome to this week’s Real English video.

I’m Darcy and today we’ll be talking about the [ɪ] vowel, as in the word ‘kid’. Lots of language learners find this vowel difficult, especially if it doesn’t exist in your native language. To pronounce this sound your lower jaw is quite closed and the tip of your tongue is behind your lower teeth.

[ɪ]. [ɪ]. [ɪ].

Here are some words that have the [ɪ] vowel: trip, kid, thin, sit. And here’s a tongue twister to help you practice this sound: The kitten is eating chicken in the kitchen.

Make sure you practice this for at least a minute everyday and see how good you can get.

Good luck and we’ll see you next Friday.
