Episode #3 [i:] as in ‘cheese’
2 September 2016
Hello. Welcome to this week’s edition of Real English.
I’m Darcy and this week we’ll be talking about the [i:] vowel, as in the word ‘cheese’. To pronounce this sound your jaw is quite closed, the tip of your tongue is right behind your lower teeth, and the blade of your tongue is close to the roof of your mouth.
[i:]. [i:]. [i:].
Here are a few words that use the [i:] sound: peace, niece, scream, ice-cream. And here’s a tongue twister to help you practice this sound: I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice-cream. Make sure you practice this for at least a minute everyday and see how good you can get at it by next week.
Good luck and we’ll see you next Friday.
