How to prepare for IELTS fast

6 February 2017

So you want to take IELTS as soon as possible and are looking for the quickest way to prepare?

Even if your English is perfect and you grew up speaking the language, you cannot expect to get a perfect score in IELTS.  The test situation is stressful, some questions will be unexpected, and some skills – like academic writing – are not naturally acquired even by native speakers.

So, even if you think you’re ready to take the test, absolutely make sure you practice to get familiar with the format of the test.

If you are not a native English speaker, you will also have to improve your English, on top of familiarizing yourself with the test.

Try using materials which have specifically been developed for IELTS preparation: this way you can kill two birds with one stone by learning about the test and improving your English.  Try where there are heaps of resources.  Their Facebook page is really good as well and you’ll find heaps of other people out there who are working hard to achieve the same goals as you.

Another way to be more productive is to practice several skills at the same time.  For example, if you watch an academic lecture, you will improve not only your listening, but also vocabulary, grammar, and stylistic skills.

Watch English language movies, read English news, and listen to English language music.   Sing the lyrics and generally surround yourself with English for at least 15 minutes every day if not more depending on the test date.

Happy learning!
